Chamonix is located in the French Alps. It is a popular winter sports resort town in France. Chamonix is also loved for its beautiful sights, hikes and climbs in the summer time. Below are some photos of Chamonix. One of the main attractions of Chamonix is Mont Blanc. Mont Blanc rises 4810m above sea level. Chamonix was the host of the first ever winter Olympics in 1924.

My father, step mother and two sisters all live in Chamonix. To see some of the beautiful chalets for rent or sale in Chamonix and the surrounding villages, you can click the link below to my father’s real estate website.

Lionel Terray

My grandfather Lionel Terray was a well known climbing guide and ski instructor. He was active in mountain combat against Germany during World War II. After the war he became well known as one of the best Chamonix climbers and guides, noted for his speedy ascents of some of the most notorious climbs in the French, Italian and Swiss Alps. In the late 1950s and early 1960s he made a number of first ascents in Peru, Nepal, the Alaska Range, the Himalaya and the Patagonian Andes.

He died on a rock climb in the Vercors, south of Grenoble on 23 September 1965, several years after the publication of his climbing memoirs, Conquistadors of the Useless which you can find at Le Salon.
